Feb 20th, 2020 #14 NOW AFTER MLK DAY IS OVER- IN THESE MOMENTS OF CRISIS SHOULD WE FORGET THE WORDS OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR? HIS MESSAGES SHOULD NOT BE SOLELY INSCRIBED IN A SPECIAL CELEBRATORY DAY. WE NEED TO LISTEN NOW AS WELL!

THE POWER OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IN THE UNITED STATES
…AND BEYOND!

Many of us believe that the last moments of the Senate trial focused on the potential removal of Donald Trump, including the acquittal, heralded the beginning of the official unitary Presidency. Yes, for many decades- that possibility has been steadily progressing- but when a branch of Congress, commissioned to act as a judiciary in an impeachment proceeding, disallows witnesses and document that have been already blatantly illegally disallowed to the House during their deliberations on impeachment, then we have handed over the power of the House to the accused. This sets a grossly illegal precedent for the future and has already set in stone, probably subject to a decision in the Supreme Court, the immunity of the President from vitally important prosecutions to protect our Democracy. In other words, the Senate has virtually coronated Donald Trump as King. This was the status of King George during a time when members of Parliament could be impeached, but never the Monarch..

What has this to do with Martin Luther King? Everything. Right now, Tulsi Gabbard, whatever you think of the totality of her message, has been the strongest voice against regime change wars. After her obstruction of her campaign by Google during vital moments during and following the debates and the toxic attacks on her patriotism by Hillary Clinton, she has now been officially excluded from the CNN town hall meetings, highlighting the danger of her message to one of the strongest media proponents of these endless wars. Here is what she said about Martin Luther King on the day we have just celebrated.

As Tulsi says, Martin Luther King, Jr. is an American hero for many reasons. He spearheaded one of the most powerful instruments of change in the United States. Its power and efficacy echoed the power of such mighty efforts of change as the Union movement, the Suffragette Movement and the Abolitionist Movement. The Civil Rights Movement, delivering a death blow to explicit legal segregation and much of the discrimination against black people. As Tulsi also references, his concern with poverty led to his creation and leadership of the Poor People’s Campaign, fighting for the poor of all races and ethnicities and campaigning for economic justice. But there is another achievement, another deadly battle which he fought- to take on the ignominy of the concept of the American Empire when it was galvanized to invest our blood and treasure in the War in Vietnam.

WHAT GOT HIM KILLED: MARTIN LUTHER KING JR, SPEAKS OUT AGAINST THE VIETNAM WAR IN 1967

There is no way to overestimate the power of the civil rights movement under Martin Luther King, Jr. He tapped into a power of righteousness with an understanding and compassion that captivated the world and reduced the injustice to millions of people. This edition of “We Beg To Differ” explores how King, while never stopping in his efforts, rightfully looked at more than the initial challenge which he so effectively took on. This challenge is poignantly explained in his acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Echoing Through Darkness
-A Tribute to Martin Luther King-

We have so many things to fight for- discrimination against racism, ethnicity, gender; maintaining and restoring all our human and citizen rights that have been diluted, distorted or taken away, the massive wars that threaten our world in so many ways, the destruction of our environment- the neighborhood water, air and soil; the protection of our health, the massive poverty that infects so much of America… so many things. But despite these good and noble fights, should we forget the Big Picture? I dedicated this poem to Martin Luthor King, in remembrance how he refused to forget this very Big Picture- the War in Viet Nam…

Here is the beginning of his speech on Viet Nam...

Why I Am Opposed
To The War in Vietnam

Now, let me make it clear in the beginning, that I see this war as an unjust, evil, and futile war. I preach to you today on the war in Vietnam because my conscience leaves me with no other choice. The time has come for America to hear the truth about this tragic war. In international conflicts, the truth is hard to come by because most nations are deceived about themselves. Rationalizations and the incessant search for scapegoats are the psychological cataracts that blind us to our sins. But the day has passed for superficial patriotism. He who lives with untruth lives in spiritual slavery….

Now, I’ve chosen to preach about the war in Vietnam because I agree with Dante, that the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in a period of moral crisis maintain their neutrality.

THERE COMES A TIME WHEN SILENCE BECOMES BETRAYAL!!!.

Martin Luther King Jr. the Lost Speech – Casualties of the Vietnam War

To me, I share Tulsi Gabbard’s emphasis in her campaign that the central problem in America ithat we must fix is our foreign policy, particularly in regards to the use of our military I would probably prefer not to call this policy in respect of armed conflicts either regime change or endless wars. I would prefer to call it imperial militarism on both a grand and smaller level. But all this militarism is supported and justified by a foreign policy that is totally toxic and hypocritical

Many times people speak of the Democratic and Republican organizations as one party. I disagree. I think their leadership and constituency do have very different opinions as how to run the government. However, they are united in one way. They support an imperial policy of military power, economic sanctions and propaganda to disguise the mercenary goals of these policies which serve their powerful corporate donors and the interlinking objectives of intelligence, military, corporate and media which favor these policies. One particularly telling moment was during the State of the Union Speech, which eventually highlighted Nancy Pelosi’s tearing up the transcript of Trump’s speech, but at one moment focused in on her and her democratic colleagues (for the most part) enthusiastically clapping when Trump introduced Juan Guaidó as the true president of Venezuela. For those of us who have studied the issue somewhat, Juan Guaidó is more or less the non-elected President of Venezuela, appointed by Trump to lead their country. Trump’s action to appoint Juan Guaidó is truly the most arrogant, in-your-face repudiation of any kind of democratic government and a bold-facd attempt to demonstrate to the world unashamedly that he can appoint and support a puppet government without any guilt or shame.

The Last American Vagabond, hosted by Ryan Cristián, can be counted on to report on many aspects of our imperialistic intent in so much of our foreign policy. Vanessa Beeley, who is interviewed in today’s show, has a stunning record of reporting, among other things, the events in Syria. For those who are struck by the various extremist groups we fund and protect, completely opposed to our supposed humanistic and democratic philosophies, you have been too entrenched in mainstream narratives. This is one of the programs you should probably check out. Here we give two examples.

We always seem to try and find justifications for our endless wars. Here is a discussion of Israeli government members giving full license of Israel to execute her military actions anywhere she wants and the now weaker justification of the execution of Qassem Soleimani, a dangerous provocative act that outraged Iran and could have even more devastating consequences that now regularly occur.

I discovered Wim Hof last year on YouTube- entirely by accident. Since that time, there has been a tremendous climb in his world notoriety. His method, even on my low level scale of practice, has been challenging but well worth the reward for me. Nonetheless, if you decide to try it, I think it might be best to discuss it with a health practiioner and do some of your own research first. Presenting…
